Just finished playing, I think the hype surrounding HiFi Rush did more harm than good. It's still a good game, but I'm mostly looked forward to beating it so I can knock it off my list at this point. I suppose if I found the characters more interesting, the number of cutscene interruptions would be a positive, not a negative, but this isn't the case for me. Despite this on paper being more of my type of game than something like Metal: Hellsinger, there's a breeziness to the latter for me I think due to its overall pacing and length. I think my ideal experience of this game would be a 5-6 jaunt that didn't have conspicuously gated fight arenas, had either a simpler/or less prolonged story, and didn't have as much platforming and environmental sections. There's nothing inherently wrong about the characters themselves, I just think I don't find any of them especially interesting or cool. I think the animation is still gorgeous and that the combat is solid overall, but I feel like the environmental navigation, prevalence of cutscenes, and characters in general have just gradually annoyed me with time. I just beat Roquefort and I assume am approaching the final stretch. Think I would have enjoyed an open-world game with this style and rhythm combat more. Expected something more from the hype.Īlso from the screenshots and opening title with the big city shots, I thought there would be more JSR/Sunset Overdrive sandbox 3d collect-a-thon exploration, but I guess that's just not the kind of game it is. Feels like a 7.5 game underneath 10/10 visuals so far. Just not digging it that much, if it wasn't for the amazing visuals I'd probably drop it at this point. Don't get me wrong the cutscene animations during them are incredible, but it just makes the whole thing feel more Asura's Wrath than a character action game satisfying boss fight.Īlso the writing/cutscenes aren't my thing and game is very, very, very talky. Really breaks the flow of what could be enjoyable boss fights. Really dislike the bosses having so many cutscene phase transitions. *edit* looking up a few posts I see you get a parry at some point, maybe that will help make the combat flow better and more enjoyable.Īlso not completely understanding how the lock-on works, sometimes my attacks/combo finishers turn towards the wrong enemy. I'm also a bit confused because the combo system and rhythm system seem made for a Bayonetta style dodge offset because I'm continuously getting the final combo finisher circle to appear right when an enemy is going to attack me so I have to dodge and break combo because otherwise I get hit during my combo finisher? Not sure if I'm missing something there. The beat thing is whatever and doesn't seem to really add much for my playstyle. Compared to like DMC/Bayo/NG it just doesn't compare so far. The cutscenes and graphics and cutscene animations are A+++++++ the best thing everīut underneath the amazing visuals, this feels.kinda mediocre gameplay? The level design sucks so far, it's all just repetitive corridors with barely any exploration or secrets and weak platforming (though the movement controls aren't super great so not sure I'd want more intensive platforming), the combat just feels.basic, like one of Platinum's B-list XBLA titles like Korra/Ninja Turtles/etc.maybe Transformers at most. Just beat Rekka so I guess 2 stages in after a couple of hours. In fact for my tastes I don't even think it's a particularly good game where I'm at. Most annoying enemy: The flying birds, both of them.įinally trying this out and after all the hype since Day 1 and all the threads on this forum, I'm pretty underwhelmed. Would have rather played with Korsica as the main protagonist as well. My only but is that I didn't care much about the characters. And then give 10% more because they just keep throwing things at you. That look like they give 100% of themselves. Overall the combat is very good, although I still prefer the most deliberate, no-combo enemy-movement oriented combat of the Souls games. You, the world, the enemies, the parries. And you get how everything is timed in beats. I thought I would never get the samurai tempo right, but then a few dozen hours passes and you just *get* it. The special parry finishers were a very nice touch. It has a very satisfying parry mechanic, which is something I always look in these games. After 55 hours, I feel like I got my fill of this game.
